The Fence Nightmare From Lowe’s Home Improvement
I usually will not do this type of posting because it is way too personal, but I think this needs to be written. A little over a month ago (3/20) my husband and I decided to get a fence installed from Lowe’s Home Improvement. This fence was to go around the house and replace an old fence that we have in place. The fence that we have now is just too short and my father in law, who had dementia, tries to get over it all the time. My little man Ike also just jumps over it when he wants. We opted for a 5-foot chain link fence that would surround the property. Keeping in both Ike and pops.
Our order from Lowe’s was installation and 220 feet of 5′ chain link fence along with 1, 4′ gate and a 10′ gate. The Lowes installation team told us that we needed to wait for the materials to be delivered to the store before installation. We just assumed that our store did not have everything. Our installation person told us the fence would be in the store on the 3/17, when it did not arrive we decided to go into Lowe’s and check out what they did have in stock. They had everything right in the store to do our project!
Finally, that Friday we were contacted again saying the fence was delivered to the store and the installer would call us early next week. One more week went by and no call from the installer. My husband then called our local Lowe’s asking why we have not gotten a call, the manager who was super helpful called the installer and told him to call us, which he did. The installer said it would not be until May 21st when he would be able to get here! Mind you we purchased the fence on 3/20, so now we are waiting until 5/21 for them even to come out and start the project.

Since we never thought in a million years it would take this long for the fence to be installed we have gone ahead and had our new patio poured and now have a cheesy temporary fence in place which pops just bends to get out. My dog just hops over it. That was my fault in putting too much faith in Lowe’s getting the job done.
This is the first time that I have dealt with Lowe’s installing anything and thought this would be the answer for us. It is not! We had many projects planned this summer including roofing and flooring. Living in a small community, it is super had to find anyone to do anything, and my husband is unable to do much anymore due to his bad arthritis, which is crippling at times. I don’t find waiting so long at all acceptable. If I would have known that it would be two months before my fence would be installed, I would have gone with another company or looked harder to find someone local to get the job done.
I did write on the Facebook of Lowe’s and they said that someone from Corporate Installed Sales department, will follow up in two days. Waiting again. Monday we will be going into our local Lowe’s to get our money back. I am just irritated beyond belief.
Lowe’s Home Improvement has always been my go-to for many projects to buy material because they always have everything I need but because of this experience, I will start to buy more local at our smaller hardware stores. Which I should have done in the past. I just wanted to give you my experience in case you are thinking of having projects done this summer by Lowe’s. I am not saying that you will wait forever like I did but I would consider a different installer. Angie’s List here I come!!
UPDATE:
I called the Corporate Installed Sales and they had no idea what I was talking about and could not find us in the system at all. Called our local Lowe’s and found us right away. They are giving a refund in full. We will be going with someone else or doing it ourselves. I will not be using Lowe’s again. What a mess
