Confidence can be a killer when you’re trying to date. If you don’t feel confident, you can start every interaction and every date feeling like it’s not going to go well straight away. But you’re not the only person who gets anxious or nervous about dating. Every time you talk to someone or go on a date, it’s likely that the other person is feeling nervous too, even if they come across as very confident. It might seem like confidence is something that you’re born with, but anyone can improve their confidence if they want to. Try these tips if you want to be more confident in the dating scene.

Love Yourself First

It’s hard to be confident in front of other people if you don’t think much of yourself. When you’re really hard on yourself, confidence can feel unearned and you might feel like you’re being arrogant. Learning to love yourself first is essential if you want to feel more confident when you’re dating. If you love yourself while you’re single and realize that you don’t need someone else to be happy, even if it might be nice to have someone, it can make you feel a lot more confident (and less desperate) when you’re looking for love.

Have No-Stakes Conversations

There can be a lot of pressure to get things right when you’re on a date. If you’re nervous, you can end up either babbling or struggling to say much of anything at all. If you’re never really sure what to say to get the conversation flowing, you might want to try some conversations without stakes to practice your skills. You can look at something similar to and make a call, or you could chat to some people on dating apps. If things don’t go well, you don’t have to talk to them again. Plus, you have more time to think of what to say when you’re not face-to-face.

Get in the Right Mindset

Approaching dating in the right way can make it a lot easier to be confident. There are lots of ways to change your mindset and approach the dating scene differently. One way you could change the way you do things is by “faking it until you make it”. Even if you don’t feel very confident, acting more confident can help you to convince yourself that you’re capable of doing it. Talk yourself up before a date to give yourself the confidence to get out there.

Practice Makes Perfect

It takes time to learn anything new. Dating is a skill, just like many other things, and it takes practice to get it right. A less than successful date might make you want to give up on dating, but it’s going on more dates that will really help you out. If you want a crash course in dating, you could even try speed dating. Dating apps are another good way to try going on multiple dates.

If you don’t feel very confident about dating, you can boost your confidence and take a more sure approach.
