Home Improvements That Are More Than Worth The Cost

Improving your home is something we tend to do gradually over time. The things we like about living there change as we do, and it’s important to hold back and prevent yourself from renovating all at once. One day you might love coastal decor that brings a beach vibe, the next you might love shabby New York style exposed brick, and that’s OK! However, if you’d like to add something to your home this year, but you want to make sure you’ll be getting your money’s worth for years to come, we recommend any of the four home improvements down below.

Expand the Kitchen

Kitchen extensions are very popular and for very good reason. When you’ve got more room in the kitchen, you can fit in a dinner table or a counter island, you can fit in a breakfast nook to eat at in the mornings, and you can certainly move around much easier when you’re hosting  a party. There’s a lot going for a kitchen renovation! If you want to change your kitchen’s set up and make more use of the space, we say go for it.

Install an Air Conditioner

Air conditioners are a Godsend in the current climate. If you get an energy efficient unit installed, and only use it for a few hours per day, they won’t even add much to your bill either!

Contact a local heating and cooling expert for advice here; see what price you’re looking at and how much upkeep you’ll have to face. But if you want a home improvement that’s really going to pay for itself, even a portable unit with a pipe out the window will make the world of difference in those summer months!

New Insulation

How well insulated is your home right now? If you’ve just moved in, or if it’s been over 10 years since you first got the keys, there’s a chance some gaps either haven’t been discovered or have been made in that time.

That’s why we highly recommend getting some new insulation fitted before you do anything else. Spend on new weather proofing for the windows, make sure there’s enough packing and cladding in the walls, and never let a draught go unnoticed. If there’s wind coming under the door, there’s a chance it hasn’t been hung properly! Thankfully the latter is a fairly quick and cheap fix.

Put on a Cool Roof

Cool roofing is a rather amazing innovation that’s come about in the past 20 years or so. When you’ve got a cool roof on top of your property, the sun’s rays aren’t going to penetrate the top layer of your house anywhere near as much. In the current climate, that could save you a lot of money on further insulation and the use of your air conditioner!

If you want to improve your home for the long term, look into renovations like these. The better your home functions, the happier you’ll be while you’re living there.
