6 Perks of Being a Travel Blogger

The current pandemic is nearly at its end (for now) and it feels like everything is on the verge of going back to normal. This includes going back to traveling. The hospitality industry took a major nosedive over the last couple of years but it looks like things are recovering again once more. This has also led to people becoming more interested in becoming social media influencers for popular platforms such as TikTok. But that’s not all, blogging is getting its way back to popularity and has proven to be one of the best ways to catch the attention of search engines.

Before the pandemic began, travel blogging was on the rise. Readers would check out blogs to see some of the Instagram-worthy spots, where to eat, what to see, and where to sleep. Travel bloggers have been one of the main ways to help out people have the best possible trip when going on vacation. Thanks to travel blogs, this has sparked people to want to create a travel blog themselves. So if you’re wondering how to start a travel blog, then you’re first going to want to hear about all the great perks that are offered to travel bloggers!

Work where ever you want

Okay, this is already becoming the norm thanks to remote work. But even for those who work remotely, there are going to be some downsides. Not all employers are going to allow their employees to live outside a certain region, zip code, or even a certain time zone. So while remote work does create some flexibility, it may not create that much.  But if you work for yourself, such as a freelancer or owning your own business (like a blog), you’ll then be able to set up your own hours.

Want to only work evenings? Sure! Want to sleep in and travel around in the afternoon? Why not! In the mood to get some work down at an airport lounge overlooking the tarmac? Absolutely! While being a travel blogger isn’t always sunshine and rainbows, getting to set your own hours and have nearly unlimited flexibility can be quite beautiful. But, it’s also important to keep in mind that it’s not always like that. You may have deadlines from brands that are on weekdays in the morning, it may take a long time to get to the income you want of working for yourself.

Write what you want

It’s important to have a niche while traveling such as dedicating the blog to essentials for the female traveler, budget-travels in southeast Asia, or luxury traveling in western Europe, or aquatic travel, something among the lines of that. While you can write whatever you want since a blog is your very own platform, it’s also important to keep in mind that you need to write what’s not already out there for readers to see. So don’t add something to an already-oversaturated market.

Non-stop traveling

Who doesn’t love to travel?!  Travel bloggers are often (but not always) digital nomads. This gives you the chance to create ultimate independence on traveling. Getting to go wherever you want, whenever you want. Being a digital nomad opens up the chance for slow travel, this is really going to give you a chance to see and experience things just like a local rather than a standard tourist. This means you can then write about these things for your readers to find out. Non-stop traveling and experiences are excellent as this is going to make you feel like you’re constantly on vacation.

This also means that you don’t need to be location dependent either. Getting to travel often as you want for your travel blog means that you don’t need to worry about getting stuck in some rut. You can pick the location to go to, you can choose when to get up and leave to the next location, explore the world whenever you want.

But it’s important to keep in mind that not every single travel blogger gets this opportunity. While it’s true that many do, not everyone chooses to do this or they simply can’t do it. Yes, being less dependent on a location is absolutely wonderful, but it’s not something that’s required out of a digital nomad or travel blogger. It’s simply just a perk that some travel bloggers have.

You may get freebies

One of the biggest perks of being a travel blogger means that there are chances of getting freebies. This can mean a free excursion, hotel stay, an entire trip sponsored by a tourism board, and so much more. How does this work? Well, you can personally reach out to tourism boards and establishments trading social media content and a review for staying somewhere or experiencing something for free. While it can be a bit tough to pull together, you can be a micro-influencer or a huge blogger and still have a chance of getting something for free.

The travel niche is profitable

There are plenty of ways that travel bloggers make an income from their blogs. This can include selling products such as Lightroom presets,  collaborations with brands (sponsored posts), affiliate links, freelance writing, ads (such as Mediavine), guest posting, and so much more. These are plenty of ways how a travel blogger will work towards getting a nice income from their blog. So even if you aren’t interested in making this a full-time thing, you can still profit very nicely from this passion project.

Meeting new people

One of the beauties of traveling, especially for content creation means you get to meet new people. This can include locals who you can befriend, but maybe other travel bloggers as well. Building connections and making friends along the way is simply beautiful, and it’s hands-down one of the greatest things about having the opportunity to travel. Getting to meet people from all ways of life gives you the chance to learn about other backgrounds and cultures that are far from similar to your own.
