Why Living Healthily Doesn’t Mean Living Unhappily

Doing your best to live a healthy life is one of the noblest pursuits in life. For each and every person that’s going to look a little bit different, but the main idea stays the same: you’re living to promote your own health and happiness. 

However, a lot of people get this confused. A lot of people end up thinking that living healthily means being unhappy. That it means not eating what you want or doing the activities you usually love, and pushing yourself hard each and every day until you’re exhausted.

You Can Fill Your Plate

This is the most common misconception regarding living a healthy lifestyle! You’re allowed to fill your plate and enjoy your food – you don’t need to cut back or only eat certain things from now until forever. 

So feel free to fill your plate up and dig in! Nutritious food is good for your brain and body, and making sure you eat enough each and every day is the best way to live. Sure, you can cut out typical junk foods or cook your own healthier alternative, but make sure your 3 square meals per day actually fill you up!

You Can Seek Support

If you need support with something, you don’t have to face it alone. Being healthy means being self-sufficient in certain areas, of course. But as a human being, you’re going to want to talk to people and make friends from time to time! And when the going gets tough, seeking out support from those who are trained to help is just fine. 

So, whether you need to attend an alcohol rehab or you’d like to talk to a counselor about going through a course of CBT, reaching out is healthy. You don’t have to struggle alone or try to make it through by yourself simply because that might be the best way to live. 

You Can Feel Negative Emotions

You don’t have to pretend they’re not happening, or follow a ‘positive vibes only’ mindset. Doing so, in fact, could make you far more unhealthy than chowing down on junk food or forgetting to go for a run! And in truth, there’s no such thing as a negative emotion – only a negative, counterproductive action that might follow it

Indeed, negative emotions are part of the human experience. If you feel ‘negatively’ about something, you don’t have to cover it up and try to move on immediately. You’re allowed to feel your feelings, and talk about them, and bring them up when someone has caused you to feel a certain way. 

Living healthily can make you happy. Make sure you take this into account when trying to change your lifestyle and make the best out of your days. A healthy lifestyle both feels good and functions well, and doesn’t leave you craving a burger or some cake at the end of the day!
