Exterior maintenance requires a lot of time and effort, but you can’t avoid it if you want your home to look nice. Jobs like cleaning the gutters out, painting wooden doors and windows and fixing your roof all require a lot of work on your part, but it doesn’t necessarily have to be that way.

There are some great changes you can make to your home exterior that will make it much easier to maintain. You can easily keep your home looking great without all of the effort if you make these simple changes.

Iron Doors

Wooden doors might look good, but they also require a lot of maintenance. The weather will take its toll after a while and you will need to paint the door to protect it. You could get around that if you install uPVC doors instead, but a lot of people don’t like the way that they look.

The good news is, custom iron doors are a brilliant alternative. They look great and they’re incredibly durable, so you don’t need to worry about maintenance. As long as you invest in a good quality iron door, it will last you for decades and reduce the amount of maintenance you need to do.

Composite Decking

If you are creating a patio area in the garden and you want to install some decking, you should think carefully about the materials you use. Wood is a common choice, but it needs a lot of maintenance. Ideally, you should be cleaning and refinishing the wood every year to protect it from the weather but even if you do that, you will still need to repair damage every so often, so it ends up being a lot of work.

Composite decking is a much better alternative, made from recycled plastic and sawdust. It’s very durable and you don’t need to worry about staining it every year. It looks very similar to wooden decking but in terms of maintenance, it’s a much better option.

Vinyl Siding

Painting your home exterior is always a big job but it’s a very important one because the paint provides a layer of protection against the weather. If you let the paint peel off in places and you lose that protection, rainwater will start eroding the brick and causing a lot of serious damage.

But if you hate painting your home exterior and you want an easier option, you should consider installing vinyl siding. It doesn’t need to be painted and it holds up against the weather very well. Although you may need to check for damage every now and again, vinyl siding will last for years with very little maintenance needed.

Artificial Grass

Keeping a lawn in good condition is a lot of work. It requires regular mowing, weeding and aerating. If you get brown or bald patches, it’s tough to bring them back to life and sometimes, no matter what you do, you can’t fix them. So, why not skip all of the hassle and still get a great lawn by installing artificial grass instead? There are some great options out there that are almost indistinguishable from real grass.

If you want to reduce the amount of maintenance you do on your home exterior, these are some of the best changes you can make.
