As the temperatures start to rise, it is a good time to start thinking about alternative ideas to keeping your pets indoors. I have two dogs, Ricky and Ike. Ricky is a much older dog (14), and Ike is three. They both have different needs, but I wanted to focus on Ricky for this posting. As my husband and I are remodeling our home, I am sorry about the background of these images. I am bursting at the seems.

Older dogs have a bit more needs than younger, and I really have to pay attention to Ricky’s cues as it starts to heat up. I tend to honestly stay outside all day, and my poor Ricky just can’t do it anymore. One great alternative is to have a little area indoors where your dog can relax with a favorite toy or have a little snack like the SmartBones Mini Chicken Chew Bones Dog Treats from Chewy.com.

First and foremost, what I adore about SmartBones is that SmartBones are a rawhide-free alternative chew and healthy alternative to rawhide. They are totally rawhide-free, which makes them not only good for them but for you as well, not to mention they are made of healthy and wholesome ingredients! Not only that, but Ricky loves them. I have noticed as he gets older he is really picky about what he chews and eats, but he just gobbles these down.

I don’t know if my Ricky is just different or if all older dogs enjoy different texture on their paws and rolling around. I have a couple of different rugs that I put down to let him lay on, and he totally digs them.

You can pick these up at any store for super cheap, not to mention they look super plush. Each of my dogs has their favorite toys, so along with a little treat, I always add in a couple of their toys as well. I usually set this up in my office since our home is in such a mess! This also helps them get away from the construction and just relax.

I was able to check out a couple of the SmartBones treats, including the Peanut Butter SmartSticks and SmartBones. I must say, out of everything, these two were Ricky’s favorites of all!!

When it comes to Ike, he most enjoys the SmartBones Mini Chicken Chew Bones Dog Treats, and he highly recommends them.

This summer, I do hope as the temperatures rise, you think about your fur babies and their needs. If they do have to be outside, make sure that they have enough water and shade, but if at all possible, I would suggest just making them a small place of their own. It does not have to be huge or amazing, just a place of their own. Also make sure that you include their favorite toys and treats, and do check out the SmartBones Mini Chicken Chew Bones Dog Treats from Chewy.com. I know that you will love them as much as your babies.
