Home Maintenance 101: 6 Things You Should do During Spring

Help To Spread Our Content!

After a long and cold winter, spring is now here, and it’s time for you to spring into action. For you to enjoy spring’s warm winds and bright sun, you need to first take care of the things that you neglected during winter. For instance, you may want to spring clean your home and do thorough home maintenance.

Below are a few things that you should do to prepare your home for spring.

Inspect your roof

Start your home maintenance by examining your roof to see if there are any lost or damaged shingles. If your house has an old roof, you should consider replacing it. This is because the harsh weather may have damaged your roof shingles. If you find that there are missing, cracked, buckled, or missing shingles, you should replace them. Additionally, remember to inspect the flashing around the skylights, plumbing vents, and chimneys.

Prep your AC

Similar to how you prepared your furnace for fall, you should now ensure that your air conditioning unit is in good working condition for the warm months. You can prep your AC by removing the debris, replacing the filters, and cleaning the ducts. You may need an emergency air conditioning repair professional to tune-up your AC. An experienced professional will check the system’s efficiency, check the coolant level, and address any issues that emerge.

Find leaks

Now is the best time to check for clogged drains, leaky faucets, and sweaty pipes. Start by checking under the bathroom and kitchen sinks and ensure that all hose and pipe connections are properly sealed and secured. You may also want to check for water stains near your dishwasher and inspect the washer machine hoses for bulges, cracks, and dampness.

Check the gutters

It’s crucial that you check for leaky or loose gutters. When not properly drained, rainwater can find its way into your basement or crawl space, which can cause flooding and water damage. Therefore, ensure that your gutters are free of debris and in proper working conditions to channel the rainwater away from the foundation of your home. You may also want to install gutter screens to keep debris away from your gutters.

Check the basement

If you find that your basement is damp, then it means that the humidity level is higher-than-normal, there is poor ventilation, and you may need a dehumidifier. Also, remember to check the basement walls for cracks and signs of water penetration.

Seal your driveway

When properly maintained, your driveway will not only look good but also last for a long time. What’s more, if you’re planning to sell your home during the spring real estate market, staining your concrete driveway will give the front of your home a brand-new look.

As a homeowner, you may sometimes feel like there is always something to do in your home. However, to prepare your home for spring, ensure that you inspect your roof, prep your AC, find leaks, check the gutters, examine the basement, and maintain your driveway. Break up all these tasks over a few weekends to get them done easily.
