Home Features That Buyers Want Most, Ranked

Help To Spread Our Content!

Even if you’re not planning on selling your home right now, it’s a good idea to keep track of the things that buyers want most. This way, you can ensure that your renovations always add to the value of your property, not detract from it.

But what exactly are these coveted home features? Let’s take a look.

#5: Laundry Room

Coming in at number five on the list of most coveted home features is the humble laundry room. While most people don’t entertain guests in these spaces, they are helpful for separating the washing and drying from the main activities of the home. Most owners don’t want to have dryers whirring in the kitchen while they attempt to cook.

If you don’t have a laundry room yet, they are relatively easy to add. If you have space, you can partition an existing room in your home at low cost. Alternatively, you can build a rear extension or side return. However, this will cost more.

#4: Eat-In Kitchen

Buyers also want kitchens that provide eating space for all the family. It’s not just about family meals, but also providing space to work and for kids to do their homework.

The easiest way to build an eat-in kitchen is to add a central island. However, if you don’t have enough space, you can also construct a bar with stools near the window.

If you don’t even have space for that, you can sometimes knock through walls and construct arches that join the kitchen to the rest of your home. This opens up more space for secondary eating areas, but it will cost you.

#3: Air Conditioning

As people read more about the effects of climate change on the weather, they are increasingly demanding air conditioning units. Even if summers aren’t unbearably hot right now, they are likely to become so in the next couple of decades – at least according to scientists.

Air conditioning is actually a safety feature of modern homes. People who have it can ride out extreme heat events much better than those who don’t. And they can remain comfortable and productive at the same time.

#2: Bathroom On The Ground Floor

Traditionally, architects placed bathrooms upstairs to provide more room for communal spaces on the ground floor. However, that’s changing. Today’s parents want bathrooms on the ground floor so that they can check on their children while cooking dinner.

If you want a bathroom on the ground floor, you’ll need at least forty square feet of free space. Opt for things like sliding doors and non-slip mats for convenience and safety.

#1: Exterior Lighting

Believe it or not, exterior lighting is one of the most desirable home improvement features out there. Homeowners want to draw attention to their properties, lighting them up from the front so that they look beautiful.

There are many different types of exterior lighting from which to choose. For instance, you can run fairy lights around your rafters or point spotlights up at your walls from the base of your home.
