The Christmas period can be a crazy time, meaning that most let the break slip away without having much fun. This is far from an ideal situation regardless of your circumstances, but, when you have small children or Christmas guests to entertain, it’s even more important that you enjoy the time that you have together. With that in mind, here are six fun things that you can do with your family throughout the holiday season.

Craft Your Own Decorations

When you have guests coming to stay for Christmas, you’ll likely want your home looking like a winter wonderland for when they arrive. However, that doesn’t mean that you can’t add a little extra Christmas cheer when they’re settled. Crafting your own decorations is a perfect way to spend your time when the weather is miserable, so stock up on paper, paint, glue, and glitter.

Bake Some Christmassy Food

From toddlers to pensioners and every age in between, almost everyone loves baking and the delicious treats that come out of the experience. Nothing says Christmas quite like gingerbread, so why not make your own snowman and tree-shaped biscuits, or even go a little trickier by building your own gingerbread house. Once they’re baked, get creative with the decoration too.

Host A Movie Night

With Christmas comes Christmas films, so gather some blankets and snacks and get cosy in front of the television for a few hours. If films aren’t your thing, you could watch anime, like Winter Sonata or Tokyo Godfathers, or other shows with Christmas episodes instead. You don’t want to spend the whole break in front of a screen but a few nights as a family won’t do you any harm.

Try A Winter Sport

Winter might not be the best time to play football or soccer, but there are still plenty of sports you can enjoy as a family, from ice skating to snow tubing. Instead of spending the whole Christmas period hiding away inside your home, you should get everyone out of the house and doing something a little more active. Just make sure that you’re safe, sensible, and wrap up warm.

Visit Local Holiday Events

Everyone knows that Christmas is a magical time of year, and as such, there are countless special events held around the holiday season. From Christmas light switch on events to Christmas shows at a local theatre, many of these fun activities only happen once a year, so don’t miss out on anything. Check your council calendar to find out about these events.

Build A Snowman Together

If you’re in an area that has a fair snowfall throughout winter, then make sure that you get out there and build a snowman. This is fun at any age and can be quite a creative activity if you think outside the box. Once you’ve created your snowman, woman, pet, or a whole family, you could even try building an igloo, giving you and your family somewhere special to spend time.

The holiday season is a wonderful time, so don’t let it go to waste. Instead, have lots of fun and spend quality time with your entire family.
