The Identical: Movie Review and Giveaway

Are you looking for a great family movie? I think I might have found something that the whole family can enjoy. I love to have movie nights with my husband and this weekend we watched, The Identical.  This movie has many big stars in it including,Ray Liotta, Ashley Judd, Seth Green, and Blake Rayne. It is a redemptive movie about a young man, the son of a preacher, who rejects his father’s desire for him to join the ministry and instead embarks on a career as a rock singer. As he struggles to pursue his dream and rise to stardom, he finds love, pain, success, failure and ultimately uncovers a hidden family secret that reveals who he really us. The Identical is a captivating story about a family restored and a life discovered that lifts your soul and warms your heart.

Sound kinda familiar? If you are a fan of Elvis at all you know that he had a twin. In 1935, a woman gave birth to twin boys in a little shack built by her husband in Tupelo, Mississippi. It is not known whether the twins were identical. One of the twins (Jesse) was still-born, the other we all came to know and love, Elvis Presley.   For the entirety of his life, Elvis missed his twin. He prayed to him, talked about him all the time. If you visit Graceland, there is a small gravestone for Jesse in the family burial plot outside the house.

The Identical, gives you the story of what if Jesse had lived? In the movie the one twin is given to the preacher because the family can not afford to keep both. Drexel “The Dream” Hemsley, is the child that stayed with the poor family and took a rise to stardom. The other child, Ryan (the preacher’s son) is struggling to find his way in life. Most of the movie is based on Ryan, trying to find his way in life, not wanting to become a preacher like his father.

I love anything Elvis, so I was very happy to review this movie. I do have to say that it is not going to be for everyone. This music does have something to be desired and personally, I think they could have done a bit of a better job. The story itself is nicely written and very easy for anyone to understand. I have read many reviews on this movie and I don’t think that they had taken into account that this movie is for the family. It is a great story of struggle and trying to find your way in life, which at times is a very difficult thing to do. I would recommend this movie to my readers and think that you will enjoy it. If you happen to be an Elvis fan, do check it out. I often have to wonder to myself, what if Jesse had lived? Things might have been totally different. This movie is available January 13th.
