Being a blogger, I have the ability to work at home. When I first started blogging, I would just sit on the couch and go at it, but as time goes on, I have realized that it is so important to have an office. A place where you can get away from any distractions in the home. A place that you can call your own.
This could be its own separate room or just a little nook in the corner of a room. About a year ago my husband and I did a little “weekend warrior” project and built Bites Reviews an office from the ground up. I thought I would share tips for designing the perfect home office for any blogger that you will love and enjoy to be in.
When it comes to your space, you want something that completes you. Something that you are most comfortable in. Choose colors that make you happy when it comes to paint and trim. For me this color is blue. I just adore all shades of blue, so when it came to my paint choice for in my office, I went with a pale blue. You will be spending a ton of time in this space if you are a blogger or any creative online. I spend more time in my office than I do in my bedroom (TMI..I don’t think so).
If you enjoy sticking with the trends of each year this year’s Pantone Color is Greenery. Honestly, I have never been much for green myself, but I love how you can incorporate it into your home office using simple items like adding a little plant 🙂 Here is one I found on amazon that would look super cute.
The next step is choosing how you will layout your office. My office right now is super tiny so I had to pay close attention to everything that went into this small space. I opted for tons of storage and a super big “desk”, even though I ended up going with a non-traditional desk, this worked out best for me and what I do.
Since I went with a non-traditional desk, I find that it gives me the room and freedom to do a ton of different projects. No matter what I need to do I always have enough room on my desk to get shit accomplished and most of the time (seems like today) take the perfect images with the perfect lighting.
I always have things on my desk that I love as you can tell. I am never far from my Sanrio items and what you can’t see in the picture my Funko. It is good to have items in a work space that make you smile or give you inspiration.
Speaking of inspiration, you want to see the craziest thing ever? My husband recently bought me a “blogging thinking cap”..LOL.. It is a unicorn bicycle helmet. When I need a good laugh or smile, I can just look up at that.
When you are preparing your new office, make sure that you have everything that you use on a daily base within reach or within the room. It is no fun to run around looking for that foam board or rug to take pictures. I have everything right next to me so I am ready to go and can get the job done without ever having to leave the room.
Another item that I find helpful in an office, especially for a blogger is a place to store all of your little items that you use in your photos or your props. I found these carts at Micheal’s about a year ago and still use the hell out of them. They are perfect for everything that I need.
Not to mention the tops are the perfect catch all. Let’s be honest my office gets messy, and I find that I throw everything on top of these carts. I am not by any means a perfectionist, but this is what I mean by starting 2017 being real! I have seen many blogger offices and most of them use the “push and shove” method. This is when we push everything to the side to get that perfect shot.
In my case, I have the other side of the office that I use to hide things from images. LOL…Oh, and it can get messier. Just proving that we are all not perfect bloggers with the perfect office. 🙂
This set up works best for me. I am proud of the images that I take for my blog, and my husband has made sure that I have a lighting system that works best for this space. I am going to be doing a posting on how I take my flat lay shots for products and life in a couple of weeks so make sure to check back for that.
Once you have your color for the walls and decor, I would suggest thinking long and hard about your storage. If you are a review blogger, you will receive a ton of items that need to be shared or blogged about. I came up with a box system that works for me, and I do things in order as they are received. I also have cabinets that I use to store things that need to be done. Each shelf is labeled with a day of the week, and that is what I do that day.
I do hope that these little ideas help you to achieve your ultimate blogging space or home office. I have learned how important it is to feel comfortable and be surrounded with things that help me succeed, give me a laugh or just plain fun. We all need a bit of fun in our lives why not add this to your office?
In my product postings, most of the products have been received free for my honest review. I will always give my honest opinion. All images and posts are property of Hello Betty.
