So over the past couple of months, I have said it, and I will say it again, the best way to be a blogger is to be who you are and rock your blog. In this posting, I am going to share exactly who I am and why I lost myself while I was blogging. One of the biggest reasons I think bloggers tend to lose themselves is that you forget that you need to be you.
So, who is Betty Bite? Simply, I am a crazy thirty something year old that loves all things colorful and cute. Yup. Even unicorns. I even have a unicorn tattoo. I enjoy beautiful things like every other woman, but the things that I consider beautiful is not what most would think of. You might call my style and unicorn childish, but the point I am getting at is that it does not really matter what anyone thinks as long as you are you. There is always someone out there that can relate.
If you can’t look at your blog and see yourself, you have already lost the game. Blogging is a challenging game of SEO, Keywords, views and much more. For me, the most important thing that you can do to rock your blog is be different. A couple of weeks ago when I was thinking about changing everything up, I went to Pinterest and started looking around at other review bloggers. The one thing that I found is that every damn blog looked almost the same. I could not tell one from another, and that is not me, and it should not be you. Everyone had a beautiful logo, very feminine and that really is not me at all. I tried that, and it does not work.
The first step in rocking your blog this year is to take a step back as I did. It helped me in so many ways. Step back and literally see if you can see yourself in your blog. Look at your header, does it scream you? Do the colors match your personality? I feel having a strong logo is so important and I have struggled with this for years. Changing everything again and again. Now after four years, I finally have something that literally screams “This is Betty Bite’s Blog.” This is not “a” or “b’s” but Betty.
Your blog might scream you, but if you would take a moment to look around at others blogs, I bet in your design or in your voice you have changed yourself. It happens to everyone. When I first started to blog I was unique, just me, but as time went on outside influence started to take hold, and I felt the need to change as well. DON’T DO THIS! Stay true to you, and your readers will see this.
The best way to get ahold of the blogging train is to take charge of everything. Don’t let it run you. Once you have seen that you might need to find yourself again, I highly suggest making either a mood board or a Pinterest Board. I set my Pinterest Board to private and started pinning. I pinned everything that related to me from home decor to fashion. Everything in your life can be represented through your brand, and it should be.
Sure there are somethings that are mostly consistent through different blogs and topics, but you can make yourself stand out of the crowd with a brilliant blog, header and using your own voice. I see it everywhere. Again just look around the web.
It is not hard to find very successful bloggers in your topic area. Look at what they have done and why they are successful; you don’t want to copy what they have done, but you can put these tools to work for you. Most likely it is because they are unique when it comes to either their logo (people remember a logo first before anything else) or they have a particular writing style.
There is always something that you can take away from other bloggers blogs. Either something you don’t like or things that you do like yet can spin it to your own personality or topic.
This year I am pushing bloggers to step back, take that challenge and see if you can find yourself on your blog but it does not stop there. Look at your social media are you posting things that you are passionate about or just posting things so that you get noticed or because everyone else is doing it? My entire outlook on my blog and social media has changed, and I have started to implement what I am preaching, and I have noticed a HUGE difference already.
I have more engagement on Instagram, Facebook, and Twitter. I am being followed on Twitter by some of the hottest bloggers that I love as well as celebrities which is awesome for the direction that I am going in throughout 2017.
I am not saying that I know the secret to a beautiful and powerful social media influencer other than a ton of hard work (unless you are in a wipe my ass, I wipe your’s group. which is great but they all end). What I do know is being myself, even cursing at times, has made my social media more engaging. (I will go more into this in the next posting). I have stood behind the scenes and watched a ton of bloggers “grow” into what they are today and one thing that I do know is 60% of them really have lost themselves. It is sad honestly.
I do hope that my little adventure into this and challenge helps you be a better blogger. It is time to shut out the fake shit online and start rocking the real you. Nothing can stop someone from their goals if you are being honest with yourself and where you want to go.
I have huge dreams for my blog now and a new motivation that nobody can stop. I am going to take 2017 by the balls and try to make it the year that I finally become myself. I do hope that I succeed but this has been one incredible journey, and 2016 has been the hardest ever for me. I have struggled with my blog this year and just not having the motivation to do anything. Blogging is truly a lifestyle, and if you don’t have the passion for doing it, you will not succeed.
Make sure to subscribe if you get a chance because I will be posting a couple “no bullshit guides to blogging.” Everything I said should come easily and be super obvious to you, but sometimes we just need a friendly reminder. Cheers, and stay caffeinated my fellow blogger.
