This post for me is very personal because I am a caregiver and I am proud to say that I am one. Being a caregiver is not easy by any means. It is a daily challenge full of ups and downs. I take care of my father-in-law who has dementia. Dementia is extremely hard on the person who has it but can consume every aspect of the caregiver’s life.

In two months I will have taken care of my father-in-law for a year, but it really seems like a lifetime. Being totally honest, I am mentally drained before breakfast, but it also gives me pleasure knowing that I am able to take care of him as I do.  I am sure that you know what I am talking about. The physical challenges are hard enough but mentally this is exhausting. Since the first day that Don (my father-in-law) arrived at our home, I have depended on the Depend┬« brand particularly the Fit-Flex that I can purchase at Sam’s Club in bulk. 14721601_538308193034790_6463733790687618015_n

I can’t recommend the Fit-Flex enough. During the day Don will not use the bathroom to relieve himself so by night his Fit-Flex is full (just urine). He just does not want to go to the bathroom during the day. I don’t know why but I just blame it on the Dementia.

Since I shop at Sam’s Club twice a month I usually will buy the large pack of Fit-Flex  because it is convenient and I don’t have to worry about running out. Trust me you don’t want to be running to the store in the middle of the night (yup. it happened to me).

The Fit-Flex is not only perfect for home use but for traveling as well. They really seem to move with the body. Even if you are just riding into town for lunch or a longer trip, you want something that is comfortable and dependable.

When traveling, there are so many things you need to remember to bring when you are a caregiver. My must haves are the Fit-Flex (several pairs), medications and cleaning wipes. I made a little printable below that you can print out and use so that you can stay organized. Being organized is also a must when you are a caregiver because everyone depends on you.

I always make sure to have one bag dedicated to everything Don might need on hand inside of the vehicle so that it is easy to get to!!
