I think that we all have done it maybe once or twice. Cut into an onion or cucumber and cut our fingers. Not only can it be annoying, but you could seriously do some damage if you’re not comfortable with your knife skills. Included in the package are a couple of thumb spacers, so you can find your perfect fit, as well as the Viper-Bite and the Thumb Touch.
The Chef’s Thumb includes a wonderful, Viper-Bite, which holds the produce in place while you cut. I was surprised by how well this featured actually worked. I did not have to worry about my cucumber rolling around or moving at all. The teeth on the Viper-Bite really did their job perfectly.
Included in the Chef’s Thumb accessories is a Thumb Touch, which is a peeler system which is placed over the Viper-Bite. This does come in handy when it is time to peel. The only thing that I did not care for when it came to the Thumb Touch was that the actual blade was very small. Of course, it had to be for the design, but it would take you a bit longer to peel your produce. It did work perfectly and the blades are very sharp. Its double edge blade will cut in either direction and works on both the right and left thumb. I have not had this blade very long but, it does say that it is rust proof, making it the perfect addition to your outdoor cooking utensils.
Putting all the pieces together was easy as pie and the directions are easy to follow. They also have a video on their site to help you out, if you get in a bind. Included in the purchase of the Chef’s Thumb is a Antoro 5″ Small Santoku Knife. I just tested this knife out on the cucumber for the posting, but it slide through effortlessly. It is a high carbon, stainless steel blade that provides maximum sharpness. The weight of the knife is nice and the handle is comfortable. This knife is designed mainly for mincing, chopping and scooping.
In all I would recommend checking out the Chef’s Thumb for any events this summer. I know that I use many more fresh ingredients in the summer than I do in the winter and this is perfect. Like I said the only thing that I am not fond of when it comes to this product is the peeler is really small and may take you a bit longer, but it is easy to use and you don’t have to worry about anything (I think I am just used to using my jumbo sized peeler). I am in love with the Viper-Bite feature, it really holds the produce in place nicely. The Chef’s Thumb is available online for $14.95 and you do get a wonderful knife with your purchase.
